John Cornbill spent 30 years in the Department of Trade and Industry and handled Innovation policy at regional level. He has taken a career-long interest in Innovation and problem solving and is a national expert on the public sector. When he moved into the private sector in 2005 he started to develop his ideas on how Innovation techniques could be deployed to transform public sector processes. Since setting up The Innovation School, he has managed scores of projects to successful conclusions and says “I get the most interested when people tell me something cannot be done, or there is only one way, or its just not possible. There are always options”.



Over the past 30 years, Alan Ward has become internationally recognised as one of the most respected thinkers, speakers, and practitioners of Innovation and Organisational Improvement. His career has taken him from humble beginnings in manufacturing, to being guest speaker at events across the globe, from the World Congress on Total Quality Management in Delhi, to Business Education Partnerships in Paris. His innovation trailblazing saw him invited by UK government to lead on a ground breaking research projects that would codify the knowledge of hundreds of exceptional organisations to inform national UK policy and develop best practice approaches in Innovation and Organisational Improvement.


Now, as Senior Partner at The Innovation School, Alan delivers inspirational innovation in practice, focussing on equipping people with all the tools and techniques they need to apply innovation to everything they do, through a variety of workshops, training, consultancy and mentoring to Education, the Public Sector and business.




Carl has over 25 years' experience in marketing, domestic sales account management, licensing and international sales in FMCG at senior levels. Carl has a wealth of experience in a range of commercial disciplines and has initiated, negotiated, contracted, developed, marketed and managed, both domestic and international product programmes, encompassing all aspects of NPD, marketing and sales, including team management related to over 35 world class brand extensions, generating double digit growth for 10 consecutive years.


During the course of his career he has generated income in excess of £100m.Throughout his career, Carl has embraced an innovative culture, and has been intimately involved in product and service development across a number of companies.




Andy has been with The Innovation School since its inception and has now worked with John for 10 years, after first joining him at Coventry University Enteprises Ltd back in 2004. During his time at the university, Andy worked and led on a number of innovative international projects.He joined John in The Innovation School's sister company, The Insight Works, where he has now spent seven years offering innovative solutions to the public sector. His work across both companies has led him to lead on a number of projects, including rescuing underperforming European Funded projects, and delivering commercial awareness training and culture change at the University of Wolverhampton. His enthusiasm for tackling problems, and his creative spark allows him to see beyond the typical barriers often faced by organisations.




Our most recent acquisition, Matthew has joined us to not only rebrand the Innovation School offering, but lead the charge in coordinating the development and design of new products and services. Matthew draws upon years of marketing and sales experience working in the entertainment industry and retail sector, bringing with him ‘fresh eyes’ and approaches to the Innovation arena. As a social media pioneer, he adds value from having in-depth knowledge in the creation and running of regional/national brands, accounts and events.
